WATCH: Matthias Jaissle speaks to Sky Sports ahead of Newcastle vs Liverpool
Ahead of Newcastle's opening-day clash with Liverpool this afternoon, Matthias Jaissle has given a sit-down interview to Sky Sports.
Speaking to North East reporter Keith Downie, the German discussed all things Newcastle United ahead of today's 4.30pm kick-off.
The 38-year-old spoke about his first impression of Newcastle fans after visiting restaurants in the city, his efforts to prepare the team for a big season ahead and the players' positive response to early training sessions as he looks to implement new ideas on the squad.
The boss also talks about the challenge ahead after Bruno Guimaraes' sale, arriving into the job late and losing Joelinton to injury, but wants no excuses and a positive mindset as he heads into a new era and new season.
Watch the full 10-minute clip below, which also covers Jaissle's touching comments on the tribute planned for the late, great Kevin Keegan.
A new era starts today
After a summer of change, some expected and unexpected exits, six new signings and a new manager at the helm, our season starts today.
A match with so much emotion attached, not just to mark a new start at St James' Park, but with Kevin Keegan's tribute in mind, mixed in with the return of Alexander Isak following the cowardly nature of his move to Liverpool last summer.
So many questions, anxiety in the air, but also a sense of hope that Jaissle's new-look Newcastle United might just surprise us.
Let's get behind the lads and see what we can achieve. HWTL!
