Matheos Ferreira produced another moment of real quality for Newcastle United’s U21s on Tuesday night, opening the scoring against Bradford City in the EFL Trophy.
Our young Mags ultimately suffered a 2-1 defeat at Valley Parade, just a week on from their 3-1 win at York, but Ferreira’s strike was certainly one to remember.
Ferreira scores stunner at Valley Parade
Ferreira put Newcastle ahead in the 42nd minute with a brilliant finish from distance, curling the ball into the top-right corner to give the goalkeeper no chance against the League One leaders.
It was another impressive moment from the 18-year-old winger, who had already found the net in Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat to Boreham Wood earlier this month. Watch the strike below:
Newcastle U21s beaten after late comeback
Newcastle went into half-time ahead thanks to Ferreira’s strike, but Bradford hit back after the break.
Nathaniel Powell levelled for the League One side in the 59th minute before the Bradford forward struck again 12 minutes later to complete the turnaround.
Our Under-21s were unable to find a response as they fell to a 2-1 defeat, despite Ferreira’s excellent first-half goal.
It means Newcastle’s youngsters now have work to do in the EFL Trophy group, with the result another useful learning experience for Robbie Stockdale’s side.
