WATCH: Yoane Wissa strikes again with goal and assist for DR Congo

Yoane Wissa continued his strong start to the season on Monday night, scoring and assisting as DR Congo beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Newcastle forward now has eight goals in his last 12 internationals, while he also provided the assist for DR Congo’s second goal in Harare.

Wissa stars in DR Congo win 

Wissa opened the scoring in the 30th minute, reacting quickest after Zimbabwe goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze failed to hold a cross, with our No.9 poking the ball home.

He then turned provider just before half-time with a lovely assist, bursting past his man and sending Samuel Moutoussamy through to score DR Congo’s second, making it 2-0 at the break.

Zimbabwe pulled one back in the third minute of added time through Marshall Munetsi, but DR Congo held on to secure another important 2-1 victory.

Wissa could even have finished the night with a hat-trick, having seen one effort flash narrowly wide before striking the woodwork after the break.

Up to three goals and two assists for club and country this season

It has been a positive start to the campaign for Wissa, who looks to have carried his World Cup form into the new season. 

He scored for DR Congo against Equatorial Guinea last week, before adding another goal and assist against Zimbabwe. 

For Newcastle, under new boss Matthias Jaissle, he provided an assist in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool before scoring in the 2-0 win away to Tottenham.

He has therefore contributed three goals and two assists for both club and country already this season, with his recent form for DR Congo the best possible response to his penalty miss against Hull two Saturday’s ago.
