Who could Newcastle face in the Carabao Cup? Draw time and ball numbers
Newcastle’s next step in the Carabao Cup will become clearer tonight, with Sunderland among the possible opponents waiting in the fourth-round draw.
Joe Willock’s late winner at Millwall secured our place in the last 16 last week. It wasn’t pretty at The Den, but the job was done, leaving us to watch the remaining ties with our place safely booked.
Last night’s results have filled another five places, although one tie will still be outstanding when the balls come out.
When is the Carabao Cup draw and how can I watch?
The draw is expected to start at around 10.15pm BST, depending on when Manchester United’s game against Brighton finishes, and will be shown live on Sky Sports. Pien Meulensteen will host, with Jamie Redknapp and Ashley Young conducting the draw.
Who could Newcastle face?
Eleven clubs have now secured their places in the fourth round, leaving ten confirmed potential opponents for Newcastle.
Following last night’s results, the clubs already through alongside us are:
| Club | Third-round result |
|---|---|
| Arsenal | Won 4-2 at Ipswich Town |
| Bournemouth | Beat Lincoln City 4-0 |
| Bradford City | Won 3-1 at Leyton Orient |
| Brentford | Won 2-1 at Reading |
| Chelsea | Beat Leeds United 6-3 |
| Crystal Palace | Beat Middlesbrough 3-0 |
| Fulham | Won 3-2 at West Ham United |
| Liverpool | Beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 |
| Peterborough United | Drew 3-3 with Barnsley, winning 7-6 on penalties |
| Sunderland | Beat Hull City 1-0 |
Liverpool’s win unfortuantely removes Tottenham from the equation, while Peterborough joined Bradford after coming through a penalty shootout against Barnsley.
A Tyne-Wear derby remains a possibility, but five more clubs still have to qualify.
Tonight’s remaining third-round ties:
- Everton v Wolves - 7.45pm
- Fleetwood Town v Sheffield United - 7.45pm
- Coventry City v Aston Villa - 8pm
- Manchester United v Brighton - 8pm
Tomorrow, Thursday 17 September:
- Manchester City v Norwich City - 7.30pm
What are the Carabao Cup draw ball numbers?

- AFC Bournemouth

- Fulham
- Liverpool
- Newcastle United
- Peterborough United

When will the fourth-round matches be played?

Win that one and we’re into the quarter-finals. A home tie would do nicely after last week’s trip to The Den.
