Will Osula injury update - Return date made public as Newcastle fears are eased

It’s been a frustrating start to the season for Newcastle United striker Will Osula.

After a superb end to the 2025/26 campaign and an early assist for Anthony Elanga’s opener against Liverpool, the 23-year-old has been struggling with a foot injury.

The forward has been wearing a protective boot and has missed recent games against Tottenham, West Brom, Bournemouth and Millwall last night.

But despite concerning claims from the Danish media last week, a positive update has arrived on his comeback today.

Toon handed Osula boost 

According to Craig Hope, Will Osula is out of his protective boot and targeting a return to action before the international break.

In his latest Confidential Column for The Mail, Hope reveals that the Dane is 'fully mobile' and will not require surgery. 

There is no fracture and club staff are hoping to see the former Sheffield United man back in the squad for our home clash with Hull City a week on Saturday. 

Our trip to Coventry on 12th October is considered his more likely return date, but it's a huge relief to hear the striker has NOT suffered a serious injury.

Jaissle will soon have No.9 headache

Interestingly, Hope states in the same piece that new signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo has told Newcastle staff that he'd like to play as the club's starting striker.

With Osula starting the season in that role and Yoane Wissa a natural No.9, despite playing as second striker recently, it gives Jaissle options when everyone is fit. The question, therefore, may be who plays in that No.10 role. 

Based on Hope's update and Wissa's withdrawn role in our opening day draw with Liverpool, we could see Fernandez-Pardo and Osula battle it out for that striker slot, with Wissa and Willock often used just off either.
