Aleksandar Stankovic makes decision on future amid Newcastle interest - Report
Aleksander Stankovic has been linked with a move to Newcastle United as a potential replacement for Sandro Tonali.
While Tonali's exit isn't confirmed, it would make sense for Newcastle to make sure they have a plan in place to replace him should he move on this summer.
Inter Milan midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic returned to the Italian side this month after being at Club Brugge last season. Stankovic started to show his potential in Belgium, which prompted Inter to activate their buy-back option for €23m (£19.8m).
It was then reported that Inter could still opt to move Stankovic this summer for a profit, as they believe he's worth more than the £20m they paid to bring him back.
Aleksandar Stankovic wants to stay at Inter
Newcastle have been linked with Stankovic a few times, but it was Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur who have reportedly made their move already.
According to FC Inter News, Sky Sports Italy journalist Matteo Barszaghi believes the 20-year-old has rejected both Premier League clubs and is determined to stay at Inter.
“Inter have brought Ale Stankovic back to Milan for €23 million.
“He turned down Brentford – and I’d add Tottenham too. He’s absolutely determined to stay at Inter. Then there are the various dynamics of the transfer market but Inter want players who are absolutely determined to stay.”
Newcastle are down but not out
If Inter brought the Serbian back to sell for a profit, then things could get awfully awkward in Milan over the summer if he is determined to fight for a place in the side.
There's nothing to suggest that Inter want to move him on as yet, and we're sure that Stankovic will have sought assurances before deciding to return to Italy.
It looks as though Inter could be open to selling, though, if it got as far as the player himself rejecting the move to the Premier League, so there could still be a chance for Newcastle.
