"Amazing" - Jaissle hails Wissa's versatility ahead of Coventry trip

Matthias Jaissle has praised Yoane Wissa's impact as Newcastle's No.10, saying he feels comfortable behind the striker while keeping open the possibility of using him elsewhere.

Wissa played behind Will Osula in the opening 2-2 draw with Liverpool. With Osula back in training ahead of Coventry, there could soon be another opportunity to utilise that partnership.

Jaissle backs Wissa behind the striker

Asked about Wissa's best position at Thursday's press conference, Jaissle said:

"Like I mentioned already, a player who can play multiple positions. He feels really comfortable playing behind the striker. He's bringing another element into the team. So I don't want to stick and predict now his future position because I also want to have the open cards. But he's doing an amazing job as a 10 behind the striker."

Wissa is in fine form this season, having supplied an assist against Liverpool and scoring in the win at Tottenham. He also scored and assisted in DR Congo's 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe last month.

Jaissle was also asked about pairing Wissa with Osula again. He left that possibility open while pointing out that other combinations are available, with Matias Fernandez-Pardo another option to lead the attack.

Osula's return will give us more options, especially with Fernandez-Pardo also getting up to speed. The team doesn't necessarily pick itself, which is a nice problem for Jaissle to have. Competition for places is exactly what we need to bring the best out of this young squad.
