Andy Howe leaves Newcastle United after Uncle Eddie’s summer exit
Andy Howe has left Newcastle United, according to a new report from Mark Douglas.
Writing for The i Paper, Douglas reveals that our senior football executive has departed to pursue a new challenge, with the split described as amicable.
Andy, the nephew of former boss Eddie Howe, is said to leave with the club’s best wishes after playing an influential role in our recruitment operation.
His departure follows Eddie’s decision to step down this summer, although Douglas reports that Andy remained involved in preparing Newcastle’s summer overhaul alongside Ross Wilson.
A key figure in Newcastle’s recruitment
Howe took on a major role during the difficult summer of 2025, helping lead our transfer business through a window dominated by Alexander Isak’s eventual move to Liverpool.
Douglas credits him with significant involvement in bringing Sandro Tonali and Malick Thiaw to Newcastle, adding that he was highly regarded within the club.
That influence stretches back beyond the last couple of windows. In March 2024, Eddie publicly highlighted Andy’s contribution to deals for Bruno Guimaraes, Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Harrison Ashby.
He deserves credit for his part in bringing those players to Tyneside, and we wish him well with whatever comes next.
A summer of massive change
With Steve Nickson also leaving for Wrexham after 15 years at Newcastle, the changes behind the scenes have been substantial. Add in Eddie’s departure, Matthias Jaissle’s arrival and the turnover of players, and it really has been a summer of massive change on and off the pitch.
It feels like a significant shift in philosophy, too. There is a clear leaning towards younger recruitment, something Wilson has already explained, with the emphasis on players who can contribute now and develop further under Jaissle.
Losing so many familiar figures in such a short period takes some getting used to, particularly people who helped us achieve so much. But there is a lot to be excited about in the team being built and the direction we’re taking.
With Wilson shaping recruitment and Jaissle putting his ideas into practice on the pitch, it feels like we’re in good hands.
