Anthony Gordon official announcement as Barcelona complete signing

Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

The Spanish champions wasted no time in getting a deal done for Anthony Gordon once they decided he was the man they wanted this summer.

Newcastle wanted a quick resolution to the England winger's future after it became clear that he wanted out.

A deal worth over £70 million was agreed on Wednesday, Gordon flew out to Spain on Thursday and today (Friday) the deal has been announced. If only every transfer moved so quickly.

Barcelona's announcement

A good eight hours after the original announced time, Anthony Gordon was finally confirmed as a Barcelona player.

Despite the delay, it was thought that the deal was never under threat, but there were just a couple of holdups with the paperwork.

Barcelona had a livestream active on YouTube for the announcement, but the club put out a post on X before the official press conference simply saying "Catch Him If You Can".

Ironic that they make a point about his speed when they were so slow with the announcement.

How Newcastle can move forward

Gordon's exit leaves a big gap in the squad, but the fee Newcastle received will go a long way towards repairing the books after they were found to be in breach of UEFA's financial regulations.

It will also allow Ross Wilson to get moving on finding a replacement, as well as giving him a much clearer idea of what budget he has to work with.

With any luck, this will translate to some swift incoming deals for Newcastle, which is exactly what Eddie Howe has demanded.

The big thing for the fans is that we've not had to go through a similar situation as we did last year with Alexander Isak. He's gone, and we can all move on before the window has even opened.
