Bruno Guimaråes in danger of ruining Newcastle United legacy
Whatever is going on with Bruno Guimarães, Newcastle United and Arsenal this summer is getting out of hand now.
Bruno Guimarães has reportedly told Newcastle that he'd like the opportunity to explore a move to Arsenal this summer, but only if the Gunners are willing to pay what Newcastle feel he is worth, as he doesn't want to tarnish his legacy by forcing a move.
However, the actions from representatives working on his behalf appear to be doing an amazing job of tarnishing his legacy before he's even left.
Stories keep leaking about bids from Arsenal and talks opening, but as soon as those stories appear, sources at Newcastle are shooting them down. Someone working on Bruno's side is clearly putting out stories trying to unsettle Newcastle in the hopes they'll drop their asking price for the Brazilian midfielder.
Newcastle maintain there has been no contact from Arsenal
In a report in the iPaper, sources at Newcastle have called the figures mentioned around Bruno Guimarães, believed to be around £50 million, a 'joke'.
After the latest reports of talks, one insider joked that Arsenal must still be on hold at the switchboard because, as far as they were concerned, there's still been no contact from Arsenal.
The Gunners are thought to be interested in Guimarães, but they still haven't directly communicated this to Newcastle, which has left the Magpies 'bewildered' as to where all of these claims are coming from.
Kiavash Joorabchian needs looking at
You don't have to be a genius to work out what's happening. Super agent Kiavash Joorabchian is thought to be working for Bruno this summer, and all of this nonsense started after that story came out. It's clearly his doing.
The more it happens, and the longer this goes on, the bigger the risk that the Newcastle fan base turns on the captain, as there's no way he's not privy to these tactics.
If he comes out and puts an end to all the rumours, then he may save face, but the way things are looking right now, this is starting to develop into another Alexander Isak situation.
Arsenal are being very clever by not approaching Newcastle and staying out of it. They maintain plausible deniability so they can't be done for tapping up, but we'd be astonished if they aren't pulling the strings too.
The whole thing absolutely stinks.
