Dušan Vlahović rejected by trio as demands raise serious Newcaste doubts
It's not going very well for Serbian striker Dušan Vlahović after Juventus rejected his demands for a pay increase.
The Italian club are happy to let the 26-year-old leave when his contract expires at the end of the month, which has led to reports of a move to Newcastle United coming back to life.
For whatever reason, the links between Newcastle and Vlahović never seem to go away, despite the Magpies never having made an actual move for the striker.
This summer, Newcastle aren't even looking for a centre-forward, or so we're led to believe, so any links with Vlahović feel like pure fantasy.
Vlahović’s wages too much for La Liga giants
We've also said that the striker's outrageous wage demands are way beyond what Newcastle will be willing to pay at this point in time.
Juventus have refused his demands already, and now, journalist Matteo Moretto, via Madrid Xtra, has said that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have all turned down the chance to sign the free agent because of his wage demands.
The big sticking point with Juventus was that Vlahović felt he should at least be on the same wages as Jonathan David, but the club disagreed. Now he's trying to extract a similar figure elsewhere with very little to back up his feeling that he's worth that much.
It doesn’t feel likely to happen
When you look at Vlahović's goals per game, he doesn't look too bad, but if you look at fans' opinions of him online, he's not very well regarded. Indeed, Juvefc.com wrote in 2023 about how he's not delivering on expectations, and he's hardly turned things around since then.
Personally, I just don't get the hype. If his wage demands weren't so astronomical, then maybe I could see the benefit of taking a punt as a free signing.
It just feels so unlikely, but I’m sure this won't be the last we hear about him this summer either.
