Ewen Jaouen set to join Newcastle for €28.5m on four-year deal - Report

Newcastle United have signed Ewen Jaouen from Stade Reims in a deal worth £24.6 million.

This is probably the third time it has been reported that Newcastle has already signed Stade Reims' young goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen this summer.

In early May, it was claimed that Jaouen had agreed to join Newcastle after visiting St James' Park, but that was shot down by sources at the club pretty quickly.

Then later in the month, it was reported that Jaouen was 'ready to sign', with French outlets reporting it as a done deal to all intents and purposes, while British journalists were a bit more selective in how they reported the move.

Newcastle agree deal with Stade Reims for Ewen Jaouen

On Friday morning, Canal+ journalist Bertrand Latour posted on X that Ewen Jaouen is Newcastle-bound after agreeing a four-year deal.

The fee is believed to be €28.5m (£24.6m), which is quite a hefty fee for a 20-year-old goalkeeper who was playing last season in the second tier of French football.

However, at 18, Jaouen was being hailed as the future France No. 1, so he'd be coming with a fair bit of promise behind him.

Is Ewen Jaouen No.1 ready?

Ewen Jaouen is extremely highly rated and had plenty of admirers, so if this report is true, then Newcastle have bagged themselves a future star by all accounts.

We still feel that there's room for another goalkeeper to come in this summer to immediately take over from Nick Pope, who was yesterday linked with Leeds United.

Jaouen feels like a backup option for the next couple of years with a view to becoming a No. 1 down the line. James Trafford, Robin Risser and Bart Verbruggen feel like more likely options to be Newcastle's first-choice keeper next season if they can get a deal done for any of those.
