Fernandez-Pardo set for medical as Newcastle strike €60m-plus deal
Newcastle United have finally got their man.
After long-term interest, which we reported first in an NUFC Blog exclusive back in May, Newcastle look set to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
Bids have been lodged this week, with Lille standing firm in their valuation of the 21-year-old, but a deal has now been struck.
Newcastle strike deal with Lille
As revealed by Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are set to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo after agreeing a €60m (£51.4m) deal, plus add-ons, with Lille.
The Belgian international has said 'yes' to the move and is due to arrive on Tyneside tonight ahead of a medical tomorrow.
The Athletic's David Ornstein reports that the versatile attacker will sign a five-year-deal, keeping him contracted until 2031
Another superb signing for Jaissle
Just days after landing Nico Gonzalez from Man City in a £50m swoop, Fernandez-Pardo promises to be another exciting addition.
He will bring pace, directness and goals to the side, also offering huge versatility to Matthias Jaissle's attack.
Like Anthony Gordon, Fernandez-Pardo can operate down both flanks, as a second striker or false nine, while his 6ft 2" frame will help him cope with life in the Premier League.
The former KAA Gent star bagged eight goals and seven assists last season, and played 11 times in the Europa League.
