EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle eye Fernández-Pardo, Nusa and Touré as Gordon heads for exit door

With Anthony Gordon looking increasingly likely to leave this summer, Newcastle United are on the lookout for a new left winger.

Several positions will be strengthened ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the goalkeeping department a major priority, depth needed in both full-back positions and another striker almost certain to arrive.

A summer of change is imminent, and Gordon's potential exit has left the club's recruitment team preparing for life after the England international, who is receiving interest from Bayern Munich, Barcelona and several of the Premier League's 'big six' sides.

But who could replace Gordon should our current No.10 depart this summer?

Three wingers on Newcastle's radar

NUFC Blog can exclusively reveal that Newcastle scouts have been spending time in France and Germany in recent months, with Lille's Matías Fernández-Pardo, RB Leipzig's Antonio Nusa and Hoffenheim star Bazoumana Touré all watched closely.

Newcastle will have a long list of potential targets should Gordon depart this summer, but it's quite telling that all three are in their early 20s, Europe-based and affordable options with huge potential to develop into Premier League stars.

Fernández-Pardo, 21, is a versatile left-winger who can also play as a centre-forward, much like Gordon. The 6ft 2" wide man has eight goals and seven assists to his name this season and has recently switched allegiances to Spain after representing Belgium from U15 to U19 level.

The former KAA Gent talent joined Lille two years ago and is expected to seal a big move this summer following a standout season in Ligue 1, with top clubs in Spain and Italy well aware of his progress and unique profile.

Nusa, also 21, saw a £25m move to Brentford break down in January 2024, then sealed an £18m switch from Club Brugge to RB Leipzig later that year.

Since then, the fleet-footed Norwegian international has shown flashes of brilliance in Germany, managing 10 goals and 12 assists over the past two seasons, along with seven strikes in 22 outings for his country.

Touré, 20, was known to Newcastle scouts during his time at Swedish side Hammarby, where he left to join Hoffenheim in January last year. Almost 18 months on, the Ivory Coast international has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, notching 16 goal involvements in 28 league outings.

Both Fernández-Pardo and Touré are represented by Unique Sports Group; the same agency that looks after Anthony Gordon, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey and Lewis Miley, which could only support potential discussions with the players' representatives should Newcastle step up their interest.

A change in strategy

It's no surprise to see the club's recruitment team cast their eye over European gems, with young and exciting overseas talent set to be prioritised over 'Premier League proven' this summer.

Market opportunities may present themselves in the domestic market, with relegated talent, and the release clauses that may emerge, something Newcastle have exploited in the past through Tino Livramento (Southampton), Harvey Barnes (Leicester) and Nick Pope (Burnley).

On that note, Newcastle have been keeping tabs on Wolves pair Hugo Bueno and Matheus Mane, with the former a potentially ideal full-back cover for Lewis Hall.

However, lessons will be learnt from last summer after in excess of £100m was spent on Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga; a 'proven' pair who have just one league goal to their names in 46 combined appearances.

Instead, young overseas talent with big potential and affordable price tags should make up the bulk of Newcastle's business, offering greater value for money under the new SCR (Squad Cost Ratio) system and supporting Ross Wilson's bid to lower the average age of the squad.

A summer of change awaits, and Nusa, Touré and Fernández-Pardo are three European-based options to keep an eye on should Gordon seal a big-money move away in the coming months.
