Guille Fernández 'close' to Newcastle United move - Report

Alongside our pursuit of senior signings, Newcastle United appear to be wasting no time in securing several teenage talents this week.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Guinean midfielder Ousmane Diabate was set to arrive from Turkey, with a permanent deal lined up that includes an immediate loan back to Super Lig side Gençlerbirliği.

Then, just hours later, a new raft of reports claimed that Newcastle are on the verge of signing another young midfielder, this time from Spain.

Barca talent Newcastle-bound?

Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Barcelona youngster Guille Fernandez, according to Albert Fernandez

The Spanish reporter and GOL presenter claims that 18-year-old midfielder is 'close' to sealing a summer move to St James' Park.

He adds that Barcelona are now working to insert a buy-back clause in the deal for Guille and his cousin Toni Fernandez, who is closing in on a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

Big claims and the sort of project signing Newcastle have been pursuing under Ross Wilson, but only time will tell if he really is following Diabate through the door.

Fernandez is represented by Gestifute, the same agency that looks after Man City's Nico Gonzalez, who Newcastle have been pushing to sign this week following talks.

Who is Guille Fernandez?

The 18-year-old is a tall and technical midfielder who can operate in a deep-lying or attacking central role.

Fernandez is a Spain Under-19 international, playing 10 times at this age level after coming through their U15, U17 and U18 sides.

He starred in last season's UEFA Youth League for the Catalans, managing two assits and a goal in six appearances.

In 62 outings for Barcelona's youth side, he's managed eight goals and two assists, although he's yet to appear in Barca's senior side.
