Hall and Livramento called up as Newcastle’s England contingent drops to two

Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento have been named in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, leaving Newcastle United with two representatives for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.

It’s welcome news for both full-backs, particularly Livramento after the injury that ended his World Cup hopes before the tournament began.

Dan Burn is unlucky to miss out as he continues his recovery from injury, having established himself in the England setup under Tuchel. Harvey Barnes and Nick Pope are also absent.

England face four games across the extended international break, with Spain and Czechia visiting Wembley either side of trips to Prague and Rijeka.

Only six months ago, Newcastle had six players called up for the March internationals: Aaron Ramsdale, Burn, Hall, Livramento, Anthony Gordon and Barnes.

Barnes was added after Eberechi Eze withdrew through injury, while Ramsdale later returned to Newcastle as Tuchel reduced his squad before the Japan game.

That is quite a change in a short space of time. Gordon now appears on England’s list as a Barcelona player, while Ramsdale’s loan ended and Kieran Trippier also departed this summer.

Injury and selection account for some of the drop, but going from six representatives to two still brings home how quickly the English core of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle has been dismantled.

Despite that, the future is still bright. If Lewis Miley stays fit, you feel it’s only a matter of time before he joins the long list of Geordies to represent the Three Lions.
