Harrison Ashby joins Luton Town on season long loan

Newcastle United have today confirmed another exit as right-back Harrison Ashby has agreed a season-long loan move to Luton Town.

Harrison Ashby arrived at Newcastle for £3m million in 2023, coming from West Ham United as a hot prospect.

When he made the move to Newcastle, he was being compared to Kieran Trippier and fans were led to believe that Ashby would be the natural replacement for the former England international.

Ashby was placed into the reserve squad to develop, with loan moves planned to get him the experience needed before breaking into the first team.

For whatever reason, the plan has not come to fruition despite some promising appearances in pre-season games for Eddie Howe's side.

Harrison Ashby is off to Luton Town

There were questions over what the club would ultimately do with Harrison Ashby over the summer, whether his time at Newcastle could be up, but that doesn't seem to be the case just yet.

Newcastle United has confirmed via social media and the official website that the 24-year-old has joined League One side Luton Town.

The Hatters spent a season in the Premier League not too long ago but have since 'done a Sunderland' and dropped down two leagues. Former Arsenal man Jack Wilshere is hoping that Ashby can help them return to the Championship next season.

A move to League One is telling

It's clearly not working out for Ashby at Newcastle. At 24, we'd have expected him to be a first-team regular by now, given all the hype that followed him to the North East.

We are surprised that it's another loan move for Ashby. With all due respect, if he's not pushing the first team at 24, he's not going to make it at this level, so why not just let him go?

It's quite telling that he's off to League One and not even a Championship side. It's a shame as we had such expectations for the lad.
