Harvey Barnes and Bruno Guimaraes nominated for Goal of the Month

Harvey Barnes is up for September’s Premier League Goal of the Month award after his brilliant strike against Bournemouth, with Bruno Guimaraes also nominated for the screamer he scored for Arsenal against Sunderland.

The eight-goal shortlist gives Newcastle fans our own winger to back and a former favourite who made life miserable for the Mackems.

Barnes earned his nomination with the curling finish that dragged us back into the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at St James’ Park. Two goals down and struggling, we badly needed something, and he delivered before the break.

He cut inside from the left and found the far top corner to give us a route back into the game, before Jacob Ramsey eventually rescued a point.

Bruno made the shortlist with his goal in the 2-0 win at Sunderland. Bryan Mbeumo, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Lewis Dunk, Nicolas Jackson, Emiliano Buendia and Jay Dasilva complete the nominations.

Barnes gets my vote

There are some absolute bangers in there, but I’ve obviously voted for Barnes. It was a superb finish when we desperately needed one, helping us salvage something from a game that was getting away from us.

That said, I won’t be annoyed if Bruno wins. Scoring a screamer against the Mackems will always earn him a bit of goodwill here!
