Man United eyeing Sandro Tonali alternative - Good news for Newcastle?
Manchester United are thought to be the frontrunners to snap up Sandro Tonali if the Italian is to leave Newcastle United in the summer.
We still have no idea how true all the rumours around Sandro Tonali potentially leaving Newcastle are. Every source seems to have a different take, so we're just going to have to wait and see how it plays out when the window opens.
The 25-year-old has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, and while Arsenal were thought to have ended their interest, Man United's name remains in the frame, although, again, certain sources have claimed that they too have moved on to other targets.
A report in The Telegraph has suggested that the Red Devils are certainly keeping their options open when it comes to finding their replacement for Casemiro and have now turned their attention towards Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouaméni.
Man United's Tonali hops are 'receding'
The report suggests there are a lot of moving parts to this, and a lot will depend on whether the Spanish club are able to lure Rodri away from Manchester City.
If that move happens, it could open the door for Tchouaméni to leave, and it's believed that Man United would prefer the Frenchman to Sandro Tonalia, and even claim that Man United's hopes of signing the Italian are 'receding'.
Newcastle are likely to want a hefty fee to part with one of its biggest stars, and that's likely to put off potential buyers.
This summer is going to be complicated
The Magpies need that money to fund their squad shake-up, but it looks as though they might be pricing themselves out of the market, which could have a detrimental effect on their summer plans.
Newcastle need to have a huge clearout and rebuild in the summer, and whether we like it or not, the reality is that to do so, we're going to have to sell big players. However, there's a line to be walked between getting as much money as we can and not being so greedy that nobody comes in for our players.
The fact that the club is determined to get its business done as early as possible, particularly outgoings, makes this even trickier, as it doesn't leave much time for negotiations to take place.
We can already see this summer being a mess.
