Matthias Jaissle hints at more signings at Newcastle - Four more needed?

Matthias Jaissle is already hard at work at Newcastle United, taking training sessions in La Manga this morning following his appointment on Wednesday evening.

The 38-year-old arrives from Saudi side Al Ahli with a point to prove in the Premier League, hoping to build on his previous successes both in the Middle East and with Austrian giants RB Salzburg.

But there is work to do. Work to do after a summer of exits, work to do on the training ground, and in the transfer market, as the man himself has discussed today. 
 

“We will see some new faces” - Jaissle 

New boss Matthias Jaissle has been speaking to the media from La Manga today, addressing our summer transfer plans.

Chatting to Sky Sports' Keith Downie, the German is looking ahead to a "positive challenge" after losing some key players this summer, and the chance to work with the current group in Spain before more signing arrive.

On that note, he expects to see "some new faces" signing over the final month of the window, insisting that Ross Wilson is fully aware of our need to recruit.

“Where can we finish this season after all the changes? That’s a tough question after one day of officially being the manager.

“We lost a couple of really important players, but I can see it as a positive challenge. We can search for excuses but that's not our idea.

“Give me a bit of time to get to know the players. I want to get to know them (players) first to see if they can show up. I want to give them a chance. We can wait.

“But we have the capacity do something in the market (sign players). Our sporting director is aware of that, so I'm sure when the season starts we will see some new faces."
 

Four more needed? 

The obvious position we'll now prioritise lies in midfield, with Bruno Guimaraes' imminent move to Arsenal leaving a big creative hole. 

Beyond that, full-backs to cover for and compete with Livramento and Hall are essential if we wish to balance out the squad.

Further up the field, a right winger is important, for me. Murphy's time in the starting 11 has to be up and Elanga's struggles last season suggest he needs support, while Bruno's absence on that side of the pitch leaves us in need of some additional quality, creativity and flair.

Another forward may come in, but a lot will depend on Jaissle's plans for Osula, Woltemade and Wissa.
