Newcastle interested in Milan's Davide Bartesaghi - Matteo Moretto
Newcastle United need to find cover for left-back Lewis Hall in the summer as part of their squad refresh.
Dan Burn, Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento have all been deployed at left-back to cover for or replace Lewis Hall this season, but a more suitable long-term replacement needs to be found.
Kieran Trippier is leaving the club at the end of the season, and we aren't sure what's happening with Livramento as the England international is one Newcastle's most sought-after players.
Dan Burn actually did well at left-back on Saturday when Newcastle faced Arsenal, but we certainly feel a lot more comfortable with him in his preferred position of centre-back.
Matt Targett officially leaves the club at the end of the season, too, so that leaves Lewis Hall and young Alex Murphy as our only two actual left-back options.
Newcastle have been monitoring Davide Bartesaghi
Italian journalist Matteo Moretto has been on Fabrizio Romano's Italian YouTube channel to relay the news that Newcastle have been keeping tabs on AC Milan's Davide Bartesaghi, as covered on X by Milan Posts.
The 20-year-old is being monitored by several Premier League clubs, but it was Newcastle who got a specific mention by the Italian journalist.
“Bartesaghi has been closely monitored by several scouts this season. There is concrete interest from Premier League clubs, including Newcastle. Scouts have followed him both at San Siro and elsewhere.”
Bartesaghi has made 28 appearances in Serie A for Milan this season, even scoring two goals, so he may be young, but he's clearly good enough to be a regular in Milan's team.
Will Bartesaghi come to be second fiddle to Hall?
Our worry is that he may not be too keen to leave Milan, where he's playing regularly, to come and be second fiddle to Lewis Hall.
Newcastle could certainly tempt him over by insisting that he would be rotated with Hall so each would be given equal playing time, which isn't beyond the realms of possibility.
At the end of the day, Chelsea has 18 players for each position, and they still manage to convince more to join them.
Rumour Rating: 6/10 - It's highly likely that Newcastle have been scouting Bartesaghi and are interested, but it sounds very early days yet. It is a position Newcastle needs to strengthen too.
