Newcastle interested in PSG's Pierre Mounguengue - RMC Sport

Newcastle United and RC Strasbourg are ready to pounce for 18-year-old PSG forward Pierre Mounguengue.

Newcastle's quest to load their academy with the brightest young talent is never-ending, and the Magpies have spotted a potential opportunity in France.

Pierre Mounguengue is coming to the end of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and despite being highly rated by the PSG academy, he's yet to be offered a new contract.

Newcastle and Strasbourg are both monitoring the situation and could be ready to pounce, according to RMC Sport.

Strasbourg have bid twice for Pierre Mounguengue

The French centre-forward finished the season with PSG Under-19s with 21 goals and 12 assists to his name, in 35 appearances across all competitions.

The 18-year-old was even handed his first-team debut in May during a 2-2 draw with Lorient while being an unused sub in the subsequent three games.

His impressive numbers for the Under-19s have prompted Strasbourg to try a couple of times to lure him away from the French capital, but Newcastle's interest is expected to shake things up somewhat.

We're not convinced by the rumours yet

It could be tricky to convince the teenager to leave France so soon in his career when there's an option to remain closer to home on the table.

He's also more likely to be handed first-team opportunities at Strasbourg than he is at Newcastle, which could come into his thinking.

Moungeuengue looks like a player with an incredibly bright future and one that we should definitely be looking at. We do have some concerns as to why PSG hasn't tied him down to a new deal, though. That's a bit of a red flag.

Rumour rating: 5/10 - It feels like another one of those stories where our name is being used to weed out genuine interest. We'll have to wait and see.
