Newcastle Loan Watch: Antonio Cordero scores twice and Murphy nets for Ireland

Antonio Cordero scored twice and completed the full game in Cádiz’s 4-0 win over Leganés on Saturday, providing the standout performance in our latest Newcastle loan watch.

After successive substitute appearances before our last update, Cordero has regained his starting place. He played 70 minutes in the 1-1 draw at Tenerife last weekend, then scored the first and third goals against Leganés as Cádiz finally claimed their first league win of the season.

They next host Sporting Gijón on Sunday, 11 October. You can watch Cordero’s brace below:

Following our previous roundup, this edition catches up on club action from 22 September to 3 October, with international updates, a new loan closer to home and an updated minutes tracker below.

Ashby and Munda keep playing through the break

Harrison Ashby - Luton Town

Two EFL Trophy appearances for Ashby since the red card we covered last time.

He came on after 67 minutes of Luton’s 6-0 win over Ipswich Town Under-21s, then completed Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Colchester. Ashby sent a low effort narrowly wide and supplied a cross from which Devante Cole had a shot blocked.

Cole eventually put Luton ahead late on, only for Bradley Ihionvien to equalise. The Hatters took the bonus point with a 4-3 shootout win, although Ashby didn’t take a penalty.

That’s another 113 minutes, both outings coming in the cup. Luton’s next league game is away to Wycombe on Saturday, 10 October.

Anthony Munda - Swindon Town

Munda completed another two league games, playing the full 90 in the 1-1 home draw with Accrington Stanley and Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Rochdale.

He had a first-half shot blocked at Rochdale, where Swindon conceded an 88th-minute winner shortly after being reduced to ten men.

Munda was absent from the squad for the intervening 2-0 Trophy defeat to Newport County. The league results remain frustrating, but Ian Holloway has now given him eight consecutive league starts.

Swindon next host Crewe on Saturday, 10 October.

Murphy scores as Ireland pair stay busy

Alex Murphy - Kaiserslautern

Murphy hasn’t had another competitive club game since our previous update, but he has been busy with Ireland Under-21s.

He completed the 2-0 win in Slovakia, then played another full game and flicked home a corner at the near post in Tuesday’s dramatic 4-3 victory over Kazakhstan.

Kaiserslautern return to league action away to Heidenheim on Friday, 9 October.

Rory Finneran - Notts County

Finneran also completed the Slovakia win and started against Kazakhstan, playing 81 minutes before Ireland secured victory through a late penalty.

He was absent from Notts County’s squad for their 2-1 Trophy win over Grimsby on 22 September. His five league appearances remain five full games, with County next hosting Oxford United on Saturday, 10 October.

Before that, Ireland face England in Cork on Tuesday.

Diabaté and Woltemade add international minutes

Ousmane Diabaté - Gençlerbirliği

Diabaté came on at half-time in Guinea’s 2-1 defeat in South Africa, then completed Thursday’s 1-0 win over Kenya.

That’s another 135 minutes of senior international football during the break. His club return comes at home to Amed Sportif on Saturday, 10 October.

Nick Woltemade - Juventus

Big Nick started and played 77 minutes in Germany’s 2-0 win over Serbia on Thursday, Jürgen Klopp’s first victory as national coach.

There has been no further Juventus action since his first goal and late substitute appearance covered in our previous edition. They resume away to Cagliari on Sunday, 11 October.

Odysseas Vlachodimos - Sevilla

Vlachodimos has been an unused substitute in Greece’s three completed games during this break, against Serbia, Germany and the Netherlands.

His club record remains seven starts and seven full games. Sevilla next visit Levante on Monday, 12 October.

Sean Neave - Wolves

No further competitive Wolves action since our last roundup, leaving Neave on 95 club minutes.

His full cup appearance at Everton accounted for 90 of those, so hopefully more league involvement follows when Wolves visit Middlesbrough on Saturday, 10 October.

Leo Shahar - Arouca

Shahar is still waiting for his first competitive appearance in Portugal, although Arouca haven’t played another competitive game since our previous update.

Their next fixture is at home to Estrela da Amadora on Sunday, 11 October. Hopefully the time on the training ground during this break helps him get into contention.

Who is getting the minutes?

Vlachodimos remains an ever-present. Finneran’s overall percentage drops after missing the Trophy game, although his league record remains intact.
