‘Newcastle offer €35m for Victor Munoz’ - Big claims from Spain on Osasuna star

Newcastle United have stepped up their interest in Victor Munoz, according to a report coming out of Spain.

Eddie Howe needs a new left winger to replace Anthony Gordon after the England star joined Barcelona last week.

Newcastle will need someone to compete with Harvey Barnes for the starting left wing role, and the Magpies have identified Osasuna's 22-year-old Victor Munoz as a potential candidate.

A new report from Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya has claimed that Newcastle have now made a bid to bring the Spaniard to St James' Park.

Real Madrid could complicate this transfer

Real Madrid have a buy-back clause and a 50% sell-on clause in Munoz's contract, but Jose Alvarez claims Madrid will not activate their €40m buy-back clause, allowing Newcastle to go ahead with their bid.

Instead, Alvarez has claimed via X that Newcastle have offered €35m plus €5m in bonuses for the Osasuna star.

"Newcastle's offer to Osasuna is 35+5 (the release clause is 40). The offer to the player is very enticing and with a starring role following Gordon's departure. Real Madrid has no intention of buying him back. The next few days, key to sealing the deal."

We're not convinced a bid has been made, but it's one to watch

Looking into Jose Alvarez, he has got a few things right in the past, but we're still not 100% sure how reliable he is. One reply to this story points out how he links players with Newcastle and Barcelona every day, so he is bound to get something right eventually.

Newcastle certainly seem to have an interest in Victor Munoz, so even if this bid isn't genuine, there's a good chance that we will make a move at some point.

It's a player worth keeping an eye on, though, regardless of the validity of these bid claims.
