Newcastle REJECT second Jacob Murphy bid from Nottingham Forest - Report

Newcastle United have received a deadline day bid from Nottingham Forest for Jacob Murphy.

It was revealed just yesterday that Newcastle had turned down a £10m offer for the winger, with Matthias Jaissle reluctant to lose an experienced squad member this late in the day.

However, Forest have come back to the table with an improved bid, offering Newcastle £15m.

That's a fair offer for a 31-year-old currently out of contract at the end of the season, but Newcastle have stood firm once again and rejected the bid, as Craig Hope reports. 

Jaissle's stance explained

In a follow up post on X, Craig Hope has offered some insight behind Newcastle's decision to reject the £15m offer.

He describes it as a 'tricky situation', accepting that this is good money for a 31-year-old who is almost out of contract and not currently in our best 11.

However, context may be key here, with Jaissle clearly reluctant to sell another senior pro and big influence in the dressing room, especially without a suitable replacement.

'This is a tricky situation for Newcastle, and I note the reaction wondering why the £15m offer has not been accepted, especially with Jacob Murphy (at 31) in the final year of his contract

'Matthias Jaissle has very quickly come to appreciate the value of Murphy in a young dressing-room. Senior pros are needed & he's a big influence (and still a good player)

'So when a new manager communicates the value of a player (beyond a balance sheet) what is the board to do?

'I think it would be risky to sell Murphy against Jaissle's wishes at this stage. As I said, a tricky situation.'

Who knows, this one may still have another twist and turn in it before tonight's 11pm deadline, but it sounds like Murphy stays.
