Newcastle scouts spotted watching Franculino Djú - Report
Newcastle United are casting a wide net for transfers this summer after an over-reliance on Premier League-proven talent backfired last year.
It's understood that Newcastle will be changing their approach to transfers this summer, looking for hidden gems from around the world rather than relying on players with Premier League experience.
This season has shown that just because a player has played in the Premier League, it doesn't guarantee success.
We've already had plenty of reports from Newcastle's scouting network in South America, and now stories from around Europe are starting to trickle in, too.
Newcastle have been scouting in Denmark
The latest comes from Campo in Denmark, who claims Newcastle and Ipswich recently sent scouts to watch FC Midtjylland, and while they aren't 100% sure, the feeling is that they were there to watch 21-year-old striker, Franculino Djú in action against Aarhus on Monday.
Djú has scored 22 goals in 33 appearances this season, adding three assists to his total along the way, which makes him the kind of player clubs will be clamouring for in the summer.
Another outlet, Bold, also claims there are three other players the English scouts could have been looking at with Aral Şimşir and Darío Osorio, and Aarhus’ Tobias Bech, all thought to be sellable assets for Midtjylland and Aarhus in the summer.
Newcastle need more options up front
Newcastle are on the hunt for a goalscorer, so it would make sense that we were looking at Franculino Djú after such an impressive return this season.
The 21-year-old would likely come in as backup to Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade, should the two strikers remain on Tyneside. It remains to be seen what happens with Will Osula, who nearly left in the summer and again in January, but is now seemingly the first-choice striker.
It's another few names to keep an eye out for at the end of the season heading into the summer window, but it sounds like there's a long way to go with this one yet.
