Newcastle set to sign Arsenal’s Kyran Thompson

Newcastle United will welcome England Under-17 winger Kyran Thompson to the club after leaving Arsenal.

It was being widely speculated recently that Newcastle had won the race to land former Arsenal academy star Kyran Thompson after social media detectives determined that an image on the player's Instagram was taken at Newcastle Airport.

Thompson was highly sought after when it became clear that he'd leave Arsenal, with around five other clubs speaking to the teenager.

The 16-year-old can play on either flank or as a centre-forward and is highly rated.

Kyran Thompson will sign for Newcastle United

We'd been waiting for something a bit more official than a photo taken at an Airport that may or may not have been Newcastle.

On Sunday, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that a deal was in place and Kyran Thompson would become a Newcastle player.

"EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle agree deal to sign England U17 winger Kyran Thompson from Arsenal Academy, here we go!

"Thompson has agreed to join #NUFC among five proposals, leaving Arsenal as free agent.

"Deal in place and new talent for Newcastle."

Thompson turned down Spurs to join Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur thought they'd won the race for Thompson a few weeks ago, but the youngster decided not to cross that North London line and move to the North East instead.

Things may not be going Newcastle's way in the first-team transfer market, but the academy is cleaning up this summer.

The Magpies continue to add top talent to their ranks for development, so at least the future is looking bright, even if the present has everybody on edge.
