Newcastle sign Afner Cá from Levante - Report

While work continues to find first-team additions for Newcastle United, the academy recruiters continue to knock it out of the park.

The Magpies have reportedly beaten the likes of Valencia and Villarreal to sign Afner Cá after he left La Liga side Levante.

The news was originally broken by ESPN journalist Rodra via X but has since been picked up by the likes of Mark Douglas and The Chronicle.

Standing at 6'4", the Guinea-Bissau striker will go into Newcastle's academy side next season along with Kyran Thompson, who is set to join from Arsenal.

Newcastle acted quickly to snap up Afner Cá

According to reports, Newcastle swooped to sign the free agent, and Cá has signed a five-year deal at Newcastle just a week after turning 19.

A centre-forward by trade, Cá can also play out on the wide right, which could be handy for Eddie Howe if he doesn't manage to bring in a backup for Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy leaves this summer, should he make a big impact in our Under-21s.

At the time of writing, there has been no confirmation by Newcastle United, but they aren't the quickest at informing fans of what's going on.

Pre-season friendlies start today

The academy is continuing to look in good shape. We have some exciting talent in there, some of whom could be right on the cusp of the first team.

Hopefully, we'll see some of them in action throughout pre-season, with the Magpies getting their friendly schedule underway later today with a behind-closed-doors friendly with Darlington.

We wonder if we'll get a loot at Afner Cá in any of these friendlies. We're not likely to see Park Seung-soo this time around, however, as he's off to represent South Korea's Under 23s in the Asian Games.
