Newcastle target Matias Fernandez-Pardo on Man Utd's radar - Sky Sports

Newcastle United are always going to be faced with pretty stiff competition whenever they go for a player.

The nature of the game is that everyone is looking for the best players out there, so of course whenever we're linked with a player, it's inevitable that we're not going to be the only club in town.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, they failed to qualify for Europe next season, which puts them at a big disadvantage when going up against clubs who can offer European games.

It's not the be-all and end-all, of course, but when you see the name of a legacy club being linked with a player that Newcastle is monitoring, you can't help but start to wonder if the deal is still there to be done.

Man United enter race for Matias Fernandez-Pardo

We recently broke an exclusive that Newcastle were looking at 21-year-old Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo as a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon.

Now that Gordon has moved on, Newcastle are expected to step up their search for his replacement, so we could see the Magpies start to make moves, and Fernandez-Pardo could be a name we see more of.

However, Sky Sports has today reported that Manchester United are also keen on the versatile forward following his impressive season in France, in which he bagged eight goals and five assists playing all across the front line.

Newcastle are focused on Victor Munoz first

Matias Fernandez-Pardo's name was one of several thrown out by Sky Sports as a potential for Man United, so they are not focusing entirely on Fernandez-Pardo, and it's of course worth mentioning that neither is Newcastle.

The Magpies have several players in mind to replace Gordon, and right now it seems like the priority is Victor Munoz.

Should it come down to it, though, a battle with Manchester United for a player's signature is always going to be difficult to win given their legacy and the fact that they can once again offer European football.

The Belgian forward will be in action at the World Cup, so he's another one to keep an eye on.
