Newcastle to reject £70m Bruno Guimarães bid from Arsenal - Report
Arsenal's alleged interest in Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães still hasn't gone beyond the 'reports' stage.
For all the stories linking the Premier League champions with a move for the Newcastle midfielder, sources inside St James' Park remain adamant that there has been no contact from Arsenal.
Reports of £55 million bids have been dismissed, as have rumours that talks are ongoing. Newcastle United remain absolutely perplexed by all the rumours surrounding the captain.
The BBC has become the latest to hop on the bandwagon with a claim that Arsenal are 'set to' bid £70 million for the Brazilian. That means there's still no actual contact from Arsenal. The charade continues.
Newcastle are adamant Bruno Guimarães is not for sale
Newcastle have insisted from the start of the summer that Bruno Guimarães is not for sale, and while Bruno has indicated a desire to explore the possibility of a move, he's thought to still be happy at Newcastle and won't throw a strop if the move doesn't materialise.
That leaves Newcastle in a very strong position to demand a high fee for their star man, with the Magpies believed to want something close to £90 million to consider selling him.
In response to the BBC's rumours, Lee Ryder has posted on X that £70 million wouldn't even move the needle for NUFC.
"#NUFC sources indicating Bruno Guimaraes sale at fee of around £70m a “non-starter”. Stance remains the same, Newcastle do not want to sell. Bruno expected to report back for La Manga training camp. Looks like #arsenal will have to come up with something sensational for Newcastle to even think about it."
We can't take all this guessing
We keep flip-flopping on whether we think Bruno Guimarães will stay or go. Newcastle hold all the cards right now, which makes us feel like he's unlikely to leave.
However, all of these rumours are coming from somewhere, and all signs point towards Bruno's representatives, who are clearly trying to unsettle Newcastle in the hopes they can make them blink, giving Arsenal an opening to pounce.
Bruno is expected back in training on 8th August, and if his return doesn't come along with a statement from the player putting fans' minds at ease, then we're going to start believing that he wants away.
At this point, though, as much as we'd hate to see him go to another Premier League club, if we can get £90 million for a player who doesn't want to be here, we should absolutely take it.
