Newcastle’s Matheos Ferreira receives Brazil call
Some brilliant news to share for Newcastle United youngster Matheos Ferreira, who has received his first international call-up after being selected by Brazil Under-20s.
The 18-year-old winger is the only English-based player named in the squad for next month’s friendly fixtures against Japan and Singapore.
Ferreira earns Brazil call-up
Born in Ashington, Ferreira is eligible to represent Brazil through his father, who hails from the South American country.
The youngster has been progressing through Newcastle’s academy ranks and signed his first professional contract with the club last August.
Now, he has been rewarded with his first opportunity to represent Brazil at international level, marking another exciting milestone in his development.
Impressive start to the season and positional switch
Ferreira has made an encouraging start to the 2026/27 campaign, featuring regularly for Newcastle’s Under-21s and scoring twice in his opening ten competitive appearances.
Having primarily operated as a winger last season, the youngster has been given a slightly different role this term, playing predominantly as a number 10.
However, he remains capable of playing in, with appearances on both flanks as well as through the middle.
That versatility, combined with his continued development at Under-21 level, has now earned him international recognition from Brazil.
