Nico Gonzalez & Christopher Nkunku update - Keith Downie shares Newcastle latest

Tuesday's move for Amar Dedic secured our sixth signing of the summer, handing Matthias Jaissle a versatile full-back to cover both flanks.

The Bosnian's £29.5m arrival is a welcome boost, but it won't stop there as Ross Wilson turns his attention to midfielders.

We're still waiting on a Bruno Guimaraes replacement, although the Brazilian's skill set won't be replaced by one signing. Instead, it seems we'll pursue one midfield general to add steel to our engine room, along with a No.10 able to bring some creativity and quality to our attack.

This brings us nicely to Keith Downie's latest update via Youtube, where the Sky Sports reporter discusses Nico Gonzalez talks, the Christopher Nkunku link, Joao Palhinha and more.

Downie issues Newcastle update

Keith Downie believes we'll see a "crazy" end to the transfer window, reporting that Newcastle want to bring in "at least" three more signings before the 1st September deadline in just under two weeks.

On Man City's Nico Gonzalez, Downie hints that a move for the Spaniard may well be further down the line than what's been reported, even if the initial briefings suggest that it's at an early stage after 'exploratory talks.'

He also reveals that AC Milan attacker Christopher Nkunku is a player we've offered, and believes he's someone Matthias Jaissle would be keen to take a punt on. However, it's not yet clear if Newcastle will pursue a deal for the 28-year-old, who can play in that second-striker role.

Palhinha, Hojbjerg and another Jaissle favourite

As highlighted in the update above, Downie also reveals that Joao Palhinha is another player who has been offered our way, suggesting the ball is in our court as we continue to weigh up our options.

That said, it's thought Palhinha prefers a permanent move, not a loan, which explains why his proposed temporary move to Aston Villa had stalled.

Downie adds that 'nothing is happening', as things stand, with Marseille's Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, but believes Jaissle would prefer a move for Hojbjerg over Palhinha if both became viable options.

He confirms that RB Leipzig's Nicolas Seiwald is on the boss's radar, following links from the German media on Monday night, although it would be him or Gonzalez, not both.

This may explain why Newcastle have not pushed for Palhinha, as Gonzalez in particular would be a far more appealing, long-term addition than the experienced but ageing Portuguese international.
