Newcastle make Nicolas Seiwald move - Sky Germany
Newcastle United remain in the market for a ball-winning midfielder, with Ross Wilson's search intensifying now that the summer transfer window has exactly two weeks remaining.
We've seen strong links to the experienced duo of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joao Palhinha, while Spurs talent Lucas Bergvall hit the headlines last month following a £46m bid.
Reports in Germany have flagged another name, with Austrian international Nicolas Seiwald now the latest midfielder to enter the mix.
Newcastle make Seiwald enquiry
According to reports in Germany, Newcastle have made contact over a potential move for RB Leipzig midfielder Nicolas Seiwald.
Sky Germany's Philipp Hinze reveals that Newcastle have enquire about the 25-year-old's availability, signalling interest in striking a deal.
Matthias Jaissle is said to be a big fan, with the German coach managing Seiwald for two seasons RB Salzburg, much like new full-back Amar Dedic.
As Hinze reports, however, RB Leipzig consider Seiwald to be a key player and seemingly have no plans to lose the holding midfielder over the final two weeks of the window, suggesting Newcastle would need to stump up big money or hope the player himself pushes for a move.
Jaissle targeting trusted lieutenants?
Matthias Jaissle has inherited a talented yet young squad on Tyneside, which has not only lost experienced, senior pros, but also brought in several relatively untested talents in Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba and Ewen Jaouen so far, all aged 20 or under.
So, with leadership lacking and the new boss arriving late into the summer, it would be perfectly normal for Jaissle to target players he knows and trusts.
Dedic played under the German at Liefering and RB Salzburg, while Seiwald spent two seasons at Salzburg under the Toon boss, meaning he'd be well aware of what both can bring to his 4-2-3-1 system at St James' Park.
