Sean Steur due in Newcastle TODAY to finalise £23m move from Ajax

Early on Tuesday morning, it was revealed that Newcastle United had agreed a deal with Ajax for young midfielder Sean Steur.

It was a move that came completely out of nowhere, but it seems to be moving very quickly.

The 18-year-old was due to sign a new deal with the Dutch giants, but after a delay due to a change of sporting director, the teenager had a change of heart and opted to move.

Enter Newcastle United, who swooped in to agree a £20 million deal with £3 million in add-ons that will also include a 12.5% sell-on clause, according to The Chronicle.

Sean Steur set to become Newcastle's third summer signing

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has now provided an update emphasising the speed at which this move is progressing.

According to Downie, Steur will arrive at Newcastle today and will undergo his medical tomorrow.

"Sean Steur will arrive into Newcastle this evening to finalise his move to Newcastle United.

"The 18-year-old will undergo his #NUFC medical tomorrow morning ahead of his £20m + £3m move from Ajax.

"Newcastle Sporting Director Ross Wilson agreed the finer details of the deal this morning — and Steur is set to become the club’s third summer signing.

"The club feel this shows, on the back of Bazou Touré, that it’s important to show that deals can happen both quietly and swiftly."

Newcastle's new approach is potentially high-risk, high-reward

As Downie pointed out, Steur will become Newcastle's third signing of the summer following Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Toure.

It's a huge change of transfer strategy for the Magpies with both Jaoeun and Toure only 20 years old and Steur just 18.

Newcastle are also progressing with their move for 22-year-old Johan Manzambi as they strive to freshen the squad with young, up-and-coming talent rather than focusing on household names.

It's a big risk strategy from Ross Wilson, but if it works and all the new incomings hit the ground running, he's going to be hailed as a genius.
