Simon Jordan feels Newcastle must be 'rubbing their hands' after Anthony Gordon move

Anthony Gordon wasted no time in confirming Newcastle United fans' suspicions this summer by heading for the exit at the first possible window.

Barcelona swooped in ahead of Bayern Munich to take the England winger off Newcastle's hands before the transfer window had even opened.

It seemed inevitable that Gordon would be leaving Newcastle this summer, and all signs pointed towards a move to Germany, but when Barcelona came knocking, it wasn't even a question for the 25-year-old, who insisted he had dreamt of this move since he was a boy.

Newcastle will receive around £70 million for Gordon, with further add-ons set to keep greasing the club's palms if he performs in Spain.

Gordon started the game for England against Ghana on Tuesday, and it's safe to say things didn't go well for the former Newcastle star.

Simon Jordan feels Newcastle got a good deal for Anthony Gordon

After watching Gordon in action for England on Tuesday night, talkSPORT's Simon Jordan feels Newcastle must be 'rubbing their hands' after that deal.

“Well, that's the question, isn't it? Because you've got two of the biggest clubs in the world that are looking at him. Their coaches are seeing something in him. The England manager sees something in him, so I'm in your camp.

“I look at him, I think he had a decent first half against Ghana. But I look at him and say, ‘how is that a £70 million footballer?’ And Newcastle must be rubbing their hands.

“But Barcelona and Bayern are not fools. These are not fools.”

Can Barcelona make Anthony Gordon more consistent?

Newcastle fans know that this poor show on Tuesday wasn't a one-off. That is about the level he's played at for most of the last campaign.

On his day, there are few better at what he does than Gordon, but over the last 12 months, it has felt like bank holidays come around more frequently than Anthony Gordon masterclasses.

We're sure that playing with the stars at Barcelona will bring him up another level or two, but whether they can get him to be more consistent is what we're all waiting to see.
