Anthony Gordon comes in for tough criticism from Gary Neville after difficult night for England

Anthony Gordon recently sealed a move away from Newcastle United, joining Barcelona for around £70 million.

Just a couple of days after signing for the Catalan giants, Gordon was off to the USA to link up with England for the World Cup.

Newcastle's former number 10 has started both games for the Three Lions so far, but after last night's bore draw with Ghana, it's the former Everton man who is coming in for the most criticism.

Nothing came off for anyone in an England shirt last night, to be fair to Gordon, but it's the £70m man who is being tipped to lose his place for the upcoming Panama game.

Roy Keane and Gary Neville feel Anthony Gordon is 'under pressure'

Gary Neville and Roy Keane were discussing Gordon on The Overlap's Stick to Football show, and neither expected Gordon to start for England last night after Rashford's goal-scoring cameo against Croatia, but after last night, they really feel he's 'under pressure', with Neville saying he expected Rashford to start last night.

"Anthony Gordon, he's probably the one that's under the most pressure now and we all thought he probably wouldn't play today, didn't we?

"We thought that maybe Marcus (Rashford) would come in or something like that, but he did, he stayed on."

Roy Keane added that he doesn't feel that Gordon has seized his chance.

"Now he'd be under huge pressure. I'll say it again, there's a difference between being getting the opportunity then the manager says 'yeah, go for it'. Lads are a bit... it's different."

Confidence is a good thing, until it isn't

Newcastle fans don't need any reminding of how hot and cold Anthony Gordon can be. He has the consistency of a confidence player, but with Gordon there is no lack of confidence; if anything, he has too much of it.

For Gordon, the feeling has always been that he only turns up for the big games, but surely they don't get much bigger than representing your country at the World Cup. So what is it?

We're not going to sit here and trash the lad and say that he's not good; that's untrue and unfair. He was, at times, sensational for Newcastle, but there's definitely something going on in his head that holds him back. Barcelona will find out soon enough.
