"Special talent" - Sean Neave scores twice to win it for Wolves as Trippier pays tribute
Sean Neave scored his first two professional goals to win the game for Wolves on Wednesday night, coming off the bench to turn a 1-0 deficit at Bristol City into a 2-1 victory.
The Newcastle loanee was introduced in the 73rd minute and struck in the 82nd and 89th, sending Wolves up to second in the Championship. Kieran Trippier helped create both goals before paying tribute to his former Newcastle team-mate afterwards.
Neave's late double wins it for Wolves
A first-half free-kick had left Wolves chasing the game at Ashton Gate, but Neave needed just nine minutes to make his mark.
Trippier met a switch of play with a first-time ball into fellow former Magpie Adam Armstrong, whose shot was saved. Neave reacted quickest to bury the rebound and bring Wolves level.
Then, with a minute of normal time remaining, Trippier's free-kick was headed back across goal and Neave threw himself at the ball to head home from close range.
As noted in our latest Loan Watch, Neave had been an unused substitute against Cardiff on Saturday. Quite a response from the 19-year-old when his next opportunity came.
Trippier's praise for Neave
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Trippier said:
"He deserves every moment because I've seen how hard he works both at Wolves and Newcastle. I always look after him behind the scenes as senior player. I couldn't be happier."
Tripps later took to Instagram to call Neave a "special talent".
It's no surprise Trippier is looking out for Neave, but it's lovely to hear him speak so warmly about the lad and see them combining on the pitch. Hopefully those goals are the first of many for Neave.
We'll always have a soft spot for Tripps. Seeing him do well and enjoy his football is brilliant, even if it reminds us how much we miss him and his leadership. He could play a bit as well, mind.
