Steve Nickson to join Wrexham with date now confirmed

Newcastle United's head of recruitment Steve Nickson will leave the club next month, bringing an end to a 15-year career on Tyneside.

Nickson has been a huge figure at Newcastle United in his 15 years at the club and has overseen many important transfers during his time.

However, under Ross Wilson, Nickson's role has been cut back, with it being reported that the last transfer that truly benefited from Nickson's input was that of Sven Botman.

Having originally been linked with a move to West Ham United, Nickson was then linked with Championship side Wrexham.

It has now been confirmed that Nickson will indeed be heading to North Wales to become part of Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham revolution.

As confirmed by Lee Ryder on X on Wednesday, Nickson will take up his new role on 2nd September.

"Steve Nickson departure date set at #nufc. He will start work as Wrexham transfer chief on September 2."

Steve Nickson is expected to be given a much wider scope and far more influence over transfers at Wrexham than he currently has at Newcastle United.

It makes sense that Nickson has been kept around until the end of the transfer window just to keep Newcastle's secrets in-house while the window is open, even if Wrexham are unlikely to provide competition for any of our targets.
