WATCH: Anthony Gordon's agent spotted meeting Barcelona representatives
As Sky Sport Germany reported on Monday that Bayern Munich are still very intent on signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in the summer, a new contender has appeared.
Reports coming out of Germany insisted that Gordon remains a top target for Bayern Munich while admitting that the deal could be difficult to do, given Newcastle's demands.
There is still interest in the England winger from the Premier League. Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked with the 25-year-old recently.
Newcastle would prefer to keep hold of Gordon, but they are aware that a sale could be the best option in the summer, particularly as it would bring in a good amount of money for the club to use for a squad refresh in the summer.
Gordon's agents have been pictured in Spain
Barcelona has now entered the race as Gordon's agents have been spotted meeting Deco in Spain to discuss a potential summer move - at least according to Diario Sport who videod the agents stepping out of their vehicles for the summit.
The Chronicle has also covered the story and claims that Gordon's representatives are 'touring Europe', meeting with various clubs in order to find the winger a new club.
It looks as though Barcelona will be sending Marcus Rashford back to Manchester United rather than taking up their option to make his move permanent, and they have Anthony Gordon on their short list to replace him.
It may be time to say goodbye
As we said when reporting on the latest Bayern links, if Gordon is to leave Newcastle in the summer, we'd definitely prefer it to be to a non-Premier League club, just to avoid the awkwardness of having to come up against him twice a season.
It's starting to feel like a summer exit is inevitable for Anthony Gordon, and as much as we rate him on his day, this does feel like it may be best for everyone.
Fans have been questioning his commitment all season, and as things have progressed, some fans are starting to turn on him. The fact that Gordon dind't get off the bench on Saturday during the win against Brighton also has people wondering if there's more going on behind the scenes.
It could just be time to part ways - as long as we get a hefty price, and preferably sell him to a European side.
