Anthony Gordon still a top target for Bayern Munich - Sky Sport Germany
Things had gone a tad quiet on the Anthony Gordon front lately after a whirlwind round of rumours linking the Newcastle United winger with a move to Bayern Munich.
It may have quietened down due to Gordon's injury keeping him off the field for the last three games, even though he returned to the bench on Saturday, that was as far as he got.
Bayern Munich have been the frontrunners for the 25-year-old's signature despite interest from the Premier League too, but the problem has always been the price tag Newcastle has set.
The Magpies would prefer to keep hold of Gordon but are aware that they may have to let a couple of stars go in teh summer to fund their summer transfer plans. As a result, the club has insisted that any sales will be on their terms, meaning that potential buyers will have to meet their price demands to stand any chance of signing our players.
Bayern will not meet Newcastle's demands
Therein lies the problem for Bayern Munich, according to Sky Sport Germany who insist that the Bundesliga champions still really want to sign the England winger, but fear they could be priced out of a move.
As has been reported before, the two clubs are quite far apart on their valuation of Gordon, and this new report suggests that Bayern will not be willing to budge.
Given Newcastle's stance on selling players on their own terms, it looks like this one is dead before it's even got going.
Bayern haven't learned their lessons
Bayern Munich missed out on Nick Woltemade last summer by refusing to pay Stuttgart's asking price before Newcastle swooped in and took the German international from under their noses.
It sounds as though they haven't learned their lesson. Although, in fairness, the money in the Bundesliga isn't as crazy as it is in the Premier League, so they don't really have the resources to go too wild with huge fees without causing themselves huge PSR headaches.
If we are to lose Gordon in the summer, we'd definitely much prefer to see him go abroad so that he can't come back to haunt us in the league. We've been lucky that it didn't happen with Alexander Isak this season due to him being made out of soggy paper bags, but we doubt we'd be so lucky twice.
