WATCH: Anthony Gordon’s emotional goodbye to Newcastle as Barcelona confirm signing
Anthony Gordon is officially a Barcelona player after a long day of waiting for confirmation.
Newcastle United accepted a £70 million bid for the winger on Wednesday, and Gordon completed his medical and agreed terms on Thursday.
The official announcement was originally scheduled for midday, but it wasn't until almost 8:30pm that we got official confirmation, followed by an interview with Gordon in Spain.
As is often the case when a player signs for a big club, Gordon gave it the 'I've always dreamt of this' spiel.
Gordon's last interview as a Newcastle player
Gordon also spoke to Newcastle's official media team for the website, and he shed some light on his exit, saying that he wanted to leave the right way.
"I owe this club a lot because, when I arrived, I was quite lost both in life and in football. The club has given me a sense of belonging and a sense of identity. It's allowed me to do what I always thought I could do. It's put me on the biggest stage and allowed me to perform for the shirt.
"Since coming to the club, I feel I've improved a lot on the pitch but this club has played a big part in the person I've become over the last three-and-a-half years.
"It was really important for me to leave this place in a good way because I've loved every single minute of being a part of Newcastle United. This is an incredible club and one that I'll never forget. I'll be a fan for the rest of my life."
Gordon then revealed just how much he's grown as a person and a man during his time at Newcastle, insisting he owes the club so much.
Gordon said it was always going to Barcelona when he knew they wanted him
Speaking to the media (via The Chronicle) in Barcelona, Gordon was asked about the delay with the deal and about how late Barcelona's interest came, given that he looked destined for Bayern Munich. Gordon said that as soon as he knew Barca was interested, there was no other option.
"I knew it would happen, I've been calm in the hotel with my family and my agents, very excited so it's hard to wait.
“I can't explain, I don't know, stuff I don't understand, my part was done, I've been ready for two days, stuff above me - the small details.
"Very late, the conversations I was having, when I knew it was a serious option there was never any question. I always wanted Barca, it's the biggest club on the planet, it's a dream come true."
Good luck on your new venture, Anthony!
