Yasir Al-Rumayyan spotted at World Cup final as Newcastle chief hands out award
Big Dan Burn may have been Newcastle United's last hope of having a player on the pitch during the World Cup final, but the Magpies weren't entirely absent from the affair.
There was one former player and a couple who had been linked with moves to Newcastle present on the day, as Mikel Merino, Ferran Torres and Victor 'Judas' Munoz were all part of the Spain squad that eventually lifted the trophy.
Other than a few tenuous links, though, it was a largely Newcastle-free zone. Oh, Alan Shearer was on co-commentary duty for the BBC, so we're counting that too.
But Newcastle's biggest indirect involvement came after the full-time whistle and post-match battle royale as PIF and Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan presented a trophy.

As part of his duties as a board member of Aramco, Yasir Al-Rumayyan presented 19-year-old Spanish defender Pau Cubarsi with the Young Player of the Tournament trophy.
The youngster more than held his own against a dirty Argentinian side who had no intention of playing football and just wanted to cause damage.
Cubarsi was involved in a key moment in the final, too, as he was upended and sent spinning through the air by Enzo Fernandez in second-half stoppage time, which saw the Chelsea man pick up his second yellow card and a subsequent red. He was lucky not to be given a straight red in my eyes, but that's just me.

Hopefully, Yasir Al-Rumayyan had a cheeky word in Cubarsi's ear as he handed over the trophy, telling him to join Newcastle this summer.
We're still reeling from that rotten display of thuggish behaviour by serial cheats Argentina, and we're so glad that Spain were able to beat them despite FIFA's best efforts.
What made it even sweeter was seeing Rodri pick up the Player of the Tournament ahead of Lionel Messi too, ensuring that Argentina went home with nothing but silver medals, red cards and a dirty stain of shame on the beautiful game.
