Newcastle set Sean Longstaff asking price after £12m bid is rejected - Leeds insider
It's been a busy few days of transfer talk on Tyneside, both in and out.
Anthony Elanga is set to be officially announced today, but Sean Longstaff's proposed move to Leeds appears to be in doubt.
After Monday night claims from David Ornstein that Leeds had submitted a £10m bid plus £2m in add-ons, Sky Sports' Keith Downie stated on Tuesday that the two clubs were 'close' to agreeing a deal.
However, on Wednesday night, The Times' Martin Hardy was the first to reveal that Newcastle had rejected this offer, feeling a £12m package was not enough for a player of his Premier League experience.
Today, Leeds insider Marching On Together are reporting that Newcastle are demanding for £15m for the midfielder.
They add that Longstaff has already agreed personal terms with the Whites, suggesting the 27-year-old is keen on the move, but Newcastle's demands could represent a 'significant hurdle' for the newly promoted side.
Leeds want to add Premier League know-how without breaking the bank, meaning Longstaff fits the bill now he's entered the final 12 months of his contract.
But will they come back with another bid closer to Newcastle's asking price or look elsewhere? Ornstein reported on Monday that Leeds were 'close to their limit' by offering £12m and ready to pursue other deals if their last offer was rejected.
Now it has been, all eyes turn back to Leeds. Will they up their offer? Do Newcastle really want £15m? And at what price should we settle on after turning down £12m?
