Amar Dedic filmed arriving on Tyneside - New footage and details of Newcastle move
Newcastle's pre-season programme is over, with a busy weekend of football at St James' Park coming to a close on Sunday evening.
After Saturday's narrow defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, French side Strasbourg won a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, highlighting our need for signings and a big week on the training ground ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener against Liverpool.
Signings are essential to lift the mood and boost the squad, and one is all but done in the form of Amar Dedic, who is now on Tyneside and closing in on a £29.5m switch.
Dedic spotted on Tyneside
Amar Dedic has landed in Newcastle ahead of his imminent move from Benfica, which should be wrapped up in the next 24 hours as he completes his medical.
In new footage shared by Sky Sports' Keith Downie, the versatile full-back was spotted arriving at Newcastle airport last night via a private jet from Lisbon, after a £29.5m fee was agreed on Saturday morning.
Downie reports that Dedic, 23, will sign a five-year deal at St James' Park, becoming Matthias Jaissle's first signing since the German was appointed Newcastle United's new head coach.
Dedic has not only played under Jaissle at RB Salzburg during the 2022-23 season, but also started his first game in senior management at Austrian side Liefering, featuring at full-back as a young 18-year-old.
Benfica boss has already confirmed exit
Prior to Dedic touching down on Tyneside, new Benfica boss Marco Silva all but confirmed that his move to Newcastle was all but complete.
The former Fulham boss ruled the Bosnian out of their latest fixture, admitting the move is at an 'advanced stage', despite the Portuguese giants doing their all to keep him at the club.
"Dedić is out of the squad. I have feedback that he's in advanced phase. He's a player we didn't want to lose.
"Regarding the financial issue, the hierarchy know better than I do. But for us, Benfica, he was a player we didn't want to lose."
It's thought Dedic was not only keen to test himself in the Premier League, but eager to be reunited with Jaissle; a manager he knows well from his time in Austria.
A timely signing given our need for cover down both full-back positions; now time to sign at least one leader, a natural No.10 and perhaps another right winger.
