'Here we go soon': Johan Manzambi to Newcastle is almost done - Fabrizio Romano

Newcastle United and Freiburg have reportedly agreed a deal for Johan Manzambi to join the Magpies.

Reports started circulating on Thursday that the clubs had agreed a fee of €60 million (£51 million), and while those claims have been played down slightly, all signs do point towards this one happening.

Newcastle are a bit apprehensive as they've already had one deal stolen from them at the last second this summer, but it looks as though everything is moving in the right direction for NEwcaslte with this one.

Manzambi is still at the World Cup with Switzerland, although he is currently nursing a knee injury, which is not thought to be a serious one. Manzambi was spotted walking around the pitch ahead of Switzerland's win over Colombia, albeit limping slightly.

Fabrizio Romano says the deal will be done 'any moment'

After the reports from both sides of the deal giving conflicting information as to how far along the deal actually is, Fabrizio Romano has weighed in with his two cents' worth on YouTube, where he has claimed it's not done, but it is very close.

"Movements are happening on scene for Newcastle United because, obviously, they already lost two important players, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali. They signed the new players as well, but the next one will be Manzambi, the midfielder from the Swiss national team.

"If you're following the World Cup, Manzambi is probably one of the best talents appearing at this World Cup, scoring goals, providing assists, doing very well. I told you a few days ago that Newcastle United were preparing an official bid to send to Freiburg. The bid was sent today, and there is an agreement in principle between Newcastle and Freiburg for the player.

"So everything is verbally agreed. Now fixing the final details, payment terms, contract details, but everything is on the right way for this deal to happen. And so Manzambi expected to be a Newcastle player, that here we go is a here we go soon, but he's almost done, will be any moment."

Luke Edwards has corroborated Romano's claims

Even Fabrizio Romano's nemesis, Luke Edwards, has stated the same on X, saying that there is a verbal agreement in place, but it's not done until it's done.

This air of uncertainty is going to torture Newcastle fans until we get the official announcement that he's signed. Even if we see him heading to Newcastle on a private jet, we'll still be panicking that Richard Hughes will be on the tarmac at Newcastle Airport to whisk him away to Liverpool.

It's awful how it has come to this that we can't even get excited about new signings because of how easily we can have them nicked away at the last second.

Fingers crossed that this one goes through, though. It sounds very positive.
