Jacob Murphy could be sold by Newcastle this summer - The Times
Newcastle United could be set to lose as many as eight first-team players at the end of this season.
A squad overhaul is long overdue at Newcastle, and in all honesty, we can't see how they can realistically do everything that needs doing in one window.
There are a few players already confirmed to be leaving at the end of the season, including Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth, while the likes of Anthony Gordon and Joe Willock look to be heading for the exit too.
The rumours around Gordon moving to Germany aren't going away, but he may not be the only winger to depart this summer before next season.
Newcastle will listen to offers for Jacob Murphy
According to The Times, Newcastle will listen to offers for Jacob Murphy in the summer as they look to raise funds for a summer spending spree.
The 31-year-old has been a favourite of Eddie Howe since he came to the club and is one of those players who improved dramatically under the current boss.
However, consistency has always been Murphy's achilles heel. When he's good, he's very good, but when he's poor, he's terrible, and Newcastle needs more consistency going forward.
The question is, who takes him?
We're not sure if there are any clubs currently interested in Murphy, The Times certainly doesn't mention any, so he could still be at Newcastle next season yet.
We've got a lot of love for Murphy, but we can't let sentimentality and the fact that he's always good for a chuckle detract from the fact that he's not good enough for where we're trying to get to.
He's a top grafter, but he's just not at the right level, unfortunately. But if he does leave in the summer, he will always have the fact that he won a trophy with club he grew up supporting to look back on.
