Jacob Murphy lined up by Nottingham Forest's Oliver Glasner - Report
A week from today, the summer transfer window closes for another year.
Next Tuesday at 11pm, that will be that, highlighting just how much work Ross Wilson and Newcastle United must get through over the next seven days.
However, things are starting to get moving. Nico Gonzalez is all set to sign in a £50m move from Man City, and we can expect to see more ins and outs follow, with one or two senior exits on the cards.
One of those could be Jacob Murphy, who has joined Joe Willock in entering the final 12 months of his contract and receiving late interest.
Murphy linked with late Forest move
The Telegraph have revealed that Nottingham Forest are showing interest in Jacob Murphy.
This comes from chief Midlands reporter John Percy, who reports that new boss Oliver Glasner wants more competition at right wing-back, with the Austrian set to stick with a three-at-the-back formation.
A few weeks on from Everton's reported interest, Murphy is also believed to be on Glasner's list of targets, and one of three players under consideration at the City Ground heading into the final week of the window.
Murphy, now 31, has played at wing-back in the past, albeit briefly, and has a history of creating chances from wide areas after delivering 12 assists over the 2024-25 campaign.
The right time to cash in?
With 12 months left on his deal and his recent decline in performance levels after a poor 2025-26, it may be time to cash in while we can.
Murphy is a great character and member of the last leadership group under Eddie Howe, but I think it's time for another option down that right-hand side.
Anthony Elanga kicked off 2026-27 with a bang on Sunday, but needs support and another option able to produce that moment of quality against low blocks.
Murphy can deliver a wicked cross, but his pace will soon fade at 31, as will his value now that he's less than a year away from leaving on a free.
If we can get decent money and line up and find a suitable replacement, this could be a sale worth pursuing, should Forest up their interest.
