Lewis Miley now being targeted by Barcelona after Anthony Gordon switch - Report

Newcastle United could be bracing for another swoop from La Liga champions Barcelona.

Anthony Gordon sealed his £70m dream move to Barcelona at the end of May, but it seems the Catalan giants are just getting started.

We're not quite sure how Barcelona keeps signing players when their financial woes are well-documented, but if there's one thing we've learned over the last few years, it's that if you bring in enough money for the powers that be, rules don't matter.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo is now reporting that Hansi Flick has his eyes on Newcastle's young midfield sensation, Lewis Miley.

Miley came through the academy at Newcastle and has gone from strength to strength since bursting onto the first team scene.

His injury issues have kept him from being mentioned in the same breath as media darling Kobbie Mainoo, but he is definitely on the same level in our view.

Barcelona are looking for young talent

Hansi Flick is reportedly looking for a young talent ready to push for a place in his side, and Lewis Miley is being mentioned along with the likes of Kees Smit, who was linked with Newcastle in January.

Miley is in good company, as Mundo Deportivo report that Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl, FC Porto’s Rodrigo Mora and Bayer Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza are also on the 'list'.

The piece also gives reasons why he would be a good fit for Flick, hailing his versatility, physique and maturity beyond his years.

"Miley is a complete midfielder, possessing a maturity beyond his years, a good physique, and the ability to play in various roles across the centre of the pitch."

A Miley exit seems extremely unlikely

We're not surprised Miley is being looked at by the likes of Barcelona, but that's about as far as this is going to go given he’s a local who has recently signed a new six-year deal.

Newcastle are extremely unlikely to even contemplate letting Miley leave unless an absolutely insane offer were to come in, and we doubt the man himself would be eyeing an exit at this stage of his career either.

Still, it's pretty flattering nonetheless.
