Michael Chopra returns to football after signing for Trethomas Bluebirds

There are several players who have crossed enemy lines to play for both Newcastle United and Sunderland, Lee Clark being one of the more famous, but another is striker Rocky Michael Chopra.

Michael Chopra came through the academy at Newcastle between 1993 and 2000 before being promoted into the first team. He made his first-team debut in a League Cup game against Everton in which he missed a decisive spot kick that sent the Magpies out of the competition.

That would pretty much signal what was to come from the local lad who spent more time on loan away from the club than he did actually playing. In total, Chopra would make 21 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring once and providing one assist.

Being one of our own, fans really wanted him to succeed, but it wasn't meant to be, and a move to Cardiff soon followed. That move ended with a £5m switch to the Stadium of Light, which further tarnished his reputation amongst the Toon Army.

In case his reputation wasn't fragile enough, Chopra took to spouting nonsense about potential takeovers before the PIF came in, which just annoyed Newcastle fans more than anything else.

Michael Chopra has signed for a new club at 42

Michael Chopra has bounced around since, a couple more spells at Cardiff, a stint at Ipswich and then a spot of globetrotting before hanging up his boots in 2022 after playing for West Allotment Celtics.

However, he's back in the game now after signing for Cymru South club Trethomas Bluebirds at the age of 42, according to clwbpeldroed.org.

Chopra has a positive following in South Wales after his four spells at Cardiff City, which is where he arguably played his best football.

Someone give us some footage of this league

If anyone in Trethtomas can get any footage of Chopra in action, we'd very much like to see what kind of level we're dealing with here.

Chopra will come up against former Swansea City star Lee Trundle during his Cymru South league campaign after the Soccer AM regular signed for Cwmbran Town.

Fair play to them both for still going for it into their forties. I'm in my forties, and I'm knackered just getting up to make a cuppa.
