Newcastle eye Sebastian Krug appointment - Report
It’s been an interesting summer of transfers, rumours, and rejections. This latest link is designed to make that process a little easier.
The word is that we're keen on Borussia Dortmund's chief scout, the very same one who helped sign Haaland and Bellingham. Newcastle’s summer recruitment has clearly seen a change of ideas, and scouting is a key part of that.
Adding some proper brains to the operation would be a quietly brilliant bit of business, and given the expected turnover again, this could be a major hire.
Newcastle in for Dortmund's talent-spotter
The update comes from Ben Jacobs, who reports that Newcastle are showing an interest in Dortmund chief scout Sebastian Krug.
Jacobs adds that we aren't the only ones circling either, with other Premier League and European teams also keeping tabs on him.
Sky Sports also reports that he was also involved in recruiting Jadon Sancho and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, with those players generating around £300m in transfer income for Dortmund.
He was heavily involved in bringing Jobe Bellingham to the Bundesliga from Sunderland last summer too. So, it’s safe to say he has an eye for talent, something Newcastle are clearly keen to add.
After almost a decade at Dortmund, there's a growing sense that the time may be approaching for Krug to take his next step. Which is exactly the sort of window we want to be poking our heads through.
Filling a gap after scouting departures
Once again, it’s an eye on the future for Newcastle United. With Steve Nickson leaving for Wrexham, it’s highly likely that Andy Howe also departs. But that poses a major issue. Two of the club's highest-level scouts and negotiators are set to leave.
While Ross Wilson is the Director of Football, the head scouts are key when it comes to driving players to your club. These people often drive initial communications with a player and his agent.
Though, Sebastian Krug is going to be a wanted man, and Newcastle are not the best these days at beating other clubs to targets. This isn’t likely a move we see much movement on for a few weeks, but it’s a sign once again that, at least behind the scenes, the club is trying to recruit the best people.
